Minneapolis, Minn. –– The University of Minnesota recently hosted more than 100 deaf and hard‐of‐hearing high school students, teachers and parents from around the Midwest for its seventh annual Deaf and Hard of Hearing Day. Williams Sound was pleased to participate as the event’s listening equipment supplier, providing Digi‐Wave™ wireless communication systems for staff and attendees to use in workshops and campus tours throughout the day.
Organized by the university’s Disability Services office, the event showcased programming and services for deaf and hard‐of‐hearing students and encouraged them to consider the university in their college searches. A combination of presentations, fun activities, and group discussions promoted students’ creativity, critical thinking, and self-advocacy. The theme for the day’s events was "Dare 2 Be U", giving students the opportunity to explore their own identity, challenge themselves to think about how they can be proud of who they are, and leverage their self-knowledge to become their own best advocate.
According to Ander Bolduc, event organizer and manager in Disability Services, “The event was fantastic yet again, thanks to our staff, volunteers and sponsors. And for the third year in a row, Williams Sound generously donated Digi‐Wave systems for the day. As a result, hard‐of‐hearing attendees could more fully participate in workshops and tours of the campus. And the students were excited by the new technology that allowed them to participate.”
